Wi-Fi Enabled Mintpad to Give iPod Touch a Run for Its Money?
A 4GB, Wi-Fi-enabled, WinCE 5.0 mystery device that offers Flash-supported web browsing, touchscreen functionality, a calendar, a notes app, a blogging application, a book store and even doubles as a camera, video player, MP3 player, video recorder and photo library is finally coming to the US. The device even has a microphone and built-in speaker, giving your ear canals an overdue break. But, if you were expecting to see Apple, Asus, Dell, Lenovo or even HP attached to the product, think again.
It goes by the name of Mintpad and, while much is known about what it can do, the device has left many wondering where it came from and what markets it plans to contend in.
The Mintpad is currently available in Korea for $143. There is still no price available for the US model, but, if its manufacturers and marketers really want to contend with the iPod Touch, which seems to be its chief competitor, the price will have to drop well south of the 8GB iPod Touchs current $229 price tag. And, moreover, they better get a move on creating an infrastructure that can compete with Apples well-established App Store and iTunes music and video store.
