Zunes Suddenly Stop Working, Get Ready for Y2K9?

There's something mysterious going on over at Microsoft. It appears that all the 30GB Zunes stopped working around 2am on December 31st. The Zunes appear to be stuck on the loading screen with the status bar showing that it's loading. But that's it.
We first wondered if this was a joke, I mean how can all the Zunes break at the same time? It doesn't appear to be a joke though. There are literally thousands of reports from people whose Zunes appear to be on the fritz. The official Zune forum appears to be overloaded as well, since the site appears to be down for the time being, probably from Zune owners trying to figure out just what is wrong with their player.
Could it really be that Microsoft's Zunes are not Y2K9 compatible? Is there even such a thing as Y2K9 compliance? Evidently there is, and your Zune isn't compliant.
