TopTenREVIEWS Review

The Zune is the first MP3 player on the market to really give Apple a small run for its money. The second generation player has managed to feel more sophisticated without losing its original personality.

With 80 GB of hard drive space, 3.2 inch screen and touch pad navigation, the Zune is quickly making a name for itself. Its format support is limited but includes the necessities like MP3, unprotected WMA, Zune Marketplace protected WMA and unprotected AAC. It also supports WMV video files and includes a FM tuner. One of Zune’s most unique features is the ability to transfer songs to other Zunes through Wi-Fi. However, like the iPod, Zune is heavily locked down and almost forces the user to use propitiatory
Zune applications.

Critics agree the Zune screen is one of its best assets and the inclusion of a touch pad makes the device seem easier to use and more familiar. Users like how easy the device is to use, but many found the accompany software, which you are required to use, to be clunky and poorly designed. Additionally, the Zune Marketplace features unusual payment options and movie options are limited.

It is unlikely the Zune will oust iPod from the MP3 throne, but it definitely a worthy opponent.
