Apple has decided to take their iPods in the small, fast, hip direction. Not that the iPod Classic isn’t hip, but it definitely is the last of the feature-packed high-capacity iPods. Apple has taken everything that made the iPod famous in the first place and refined it in the Classic. Although it looks almost the same as the earlier versions of the iPod, the Classic still has the combination of features that sets the iPod above a crowd of sub-standard MP3 players.
Not as sexy as the newer, smaller, flash drive based iPod, the Classic still packs a punch in features. Ok, let’s think about this. Is 30,000 songs enough for the avid audiophile? If you figure about four minutes per song that’s about 2,000 hours worth of song entertainment. That means you could go 83 days’ worth of listening to your iPod 24-7 without hearing the same song twice. That’s pretty good. That’s what Apple is known for, combining storage capacity and battery life.
Speaking of which, the battery life on the iPod classis is nothing to cry about, with a 30 hours of battery life, you’ll be set.
The iPod Classic also supports several different video formats. Apple has updated some key features of the Classic to make it a stellar video player. With increased screen resolution, the iPod, while without the large screen of the Zune or Archos lines, is still good for watching video files or to view still images.
Part of the updates Apple has included is a split screen menu. While you are looking for a specific song you can have half the screen show the song titles and the other half of the screen will slow pan over images of album covers.
Experts like the refinement that Apple has given to the original iPod that made Apple famous. Experts also liked the combination of storage capacity, battery life and the advanced user interface.
Users, for the most part, liked the Classic. They liked the screen, battery life and storage capacity. However, they did wish Apple would improve on the navigation and that Apple would join the host of other MP3 players and add a radio tuner.
The iPod Classic is a good MP3 player that still has the great features that made the original iPod famous. With great storage capacity, long battery life and some upgraded features from Apple, the Classic is a good way to go for those who want more functionality out of their iPod.
